On it's West end, Klickitat County is located only 1 hour East from Portland OR / Vancouver WA. On it's East end, Klickitat County is located about 3.5 hours East from Portland OR / Vancouver Wa and offers rolling fields of fertile farm ground amongst the darkest skies, arid weather, and a few winery destinations.
Goldendale, located just about in Central Klickitat County, is the County seat for Klickitat County. It is an easy commute for weekend getaways where fresh air and friendly smiles await you. It's small town hospitality will make you feel glad you stopped. Weather in Klickitat County is a bit diverse. Goldendale (central Klickitat County) enjoys four definite seasons, not to mention 300+ days of sunshine per year. The average air temp during the summer months is approximately 85-90 degrees with that 'dry heat' feeling. The average air temp during the winter months is approximately 40 degrees, along with a few weeks of intermittent snow that usually melts off every couple of days. The East end of the County is certainly
the driest of all.
Other major cities in the County, besides Goldendale, include, Klickitat, Glenwood, Trout Lake, White Salmon, Bingen, Wishram, Lyle, Dallesport, Snowden, Appleton and Bickleton. The elevation of Klickitat County varies greatly between regions. However, Goldendale is approximately 1637 ft elevation. At the time of the 2010 census, the population within the city limits of Goldendale was 20,318. Also, a nationally known point of interest is north of Goldendale, the Goldendale Observatory State Park.
